Overview
What Is This Program?

The Master of Information Technology at The University of Western Australia is built for two distinct audiences: graduates from non-technical disciplines who want to transition into technology careers, and technology graduates who want to deepen specialist expertise. This breadth of eligibility makes the MIT one of the most accessible postgraduate technology programs in Australia for Indian applicants.

The degree is accredited by the Australian Computer Society (ACS) under all three specialisations, and it holds Seoul Accord recognition — the IT profession's international equivalency standard. Graduates with an ACS-accredited MIT from a Group of Eight university are well-positioned for senior technology roles across Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK, and the United States.

UWA's MIT includes an optional industry internship within the degree structure — not as an add-on, but as a formal elective unit. Students who secure a placement earn academic credit for up to 6 months of professional experience, completing a significant portion of their practical hours before graduation.

UWA's MIT is open to graduates from any discipline — you do not need a technology degree to qualify. UniCLiQ will assess your eligibility for free.
Specialisations
Three ACS-Accredited Tracks

Each specialisation is independently accredited by ACS. You choose one when applying; a change of specialisation within the first semester is possible with faculty approval.

Artificial Intelligence
Machine learning, deep learning, computer vision, NLP, and AI systems design. Strongest pathway into AI and data engineering roles.
Software Systems
Software architecture, distributed systems, DevOps, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications. Broad applicability across all tech employers.
Applied Computing
Flexible track blending business and computing; suited to career changers and graduates seeking cross-functional technology roles.
Curriculum
What You Will Study

The MIT curriculum spans programming, cloud infrastructure, data analytics, security, and project management. Foundation units in year one build a shared technical baseline; year two is heavily specialisation-focused, with the optional internship available in semester three.

Career Outcomes
Where MIT Graduates Work

ACS accreditation and Seoul Accord recognition open career pathways across Australia and internationally. UWA's 92% student satisfaction rate in the MIT reflects a program that delivers practical skills employers actually hire for.

Software Developer
AUD 80,000–110,000 starting
Perth's growing technology sector, remote work for eastern-states employers, and ACS registration support senior career progression.
AI / ML Engineer
AUD 95,000–130,000 starting
The AI specialisation prepares graduates for rapidly growing roles across resources, healthcare, and financial services in Australia.
Cloud Engineer / Architect
AUD 95,000–130,000 starting
Cloud skills remain in acute shortage nationally; WA's digital transformation projects are absorbing cloud engineers faster than universities can produce them.
Cybersecurity Analyst
AUD 85,000–115,000 starting
Government, banking, and mining sectors in WA all have active cybersecurity hiring programs; the MIT's security coverage makes graduates competitive.
Data Analyst / Scientist
AUD 80,000–110,000 starting
Western Australia's resources sector generates vast datasets; analyst roles in mining, energy, and agri-tech are well-paying and plentiful.
IT Project Manager
AUD 90,000–120,000 starting
Cross-functional technology leadership roles that value the combination of technical and management training the MIT specifically builds.

Frequently Asked Questions
I studied Commerce — can I still apply?
Yes, the Applied Computing specialisation accepts graduates from any discipline. Contact UniCLiQ to confirm your eligibility based on your specific degree and marks.
Is the ACS accreditation important?
Yes — ACS membership is a professional credential in Australia's IT sector, similar to Engineers Australia for engineering. Many senior employers and visa pathways recognise ACS-accredited qualifications explicitly.
Can I get the internship built into the degree?
The internship is an optional elective unit. Students will need to achieve higher grades in their first year of master’s course. You are welcomed to secure the part time placement during your study. Not all students can get guaranteed internships — it depends on number of factors such as employers' availability.
What are the post-study visa options?
MIT graduates from UWA qualify for the Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) for up to 4 years. Perth is also classified under the Regional Australia concession, which may extend eligibility further depending on current visa settings at the time of graduation.
