Overview
What Is This Program?

The Master of Professional Engineering at The University of Western Australia is Australia's premier graduate engineering qualification for international students. UWA is a member of the Group of Eight — Australia's eight leading research universities — and holds a QS World University Ranking of #77, placing it among the top 80 universities globally in 2024.

The MPE is a two-year, full-time degree that combines advanced engineering theory with a compulsory 12-week industry practicum, giving every graduate real-world professional experience before they finish the degree. The program is accredited by Engineers Australia for all nine specialisations, and the qualification is recognised under the Washington Accord in 22 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and South Korea.

For Indian students, this means the degree you earn in Perth is recognised as equivalent to a professional engineering qualification in over 20 countries — opening career pathways that go well beyond Australia itself.

Where MPE Graduates Work

Engineers Australia accreditation and Washington Accord recognition mean the MPE opens doors across 22 countries. Perth is the centre of Australia's mining and resources sector, while all major infrastructure, energy, and software employers operate nationally.

Civil / Structural Engineer
AUD 85,000–115,000 starting
Major infrastructure projects across WA, NSW, and Victoria. State government and Tier 1 contractors actively recruit MPE graduates.
Software / Systems Engineer
AUD 90,000–120,000 starting
Tech companies and defence contractors value the EA-accredited engineering credential above a standard CS degree for systems roles.
Electrical / Power Engineer
AUD 90,000–125,000 starting
Australia's energy transition to renewables is creating high demand for electrical engineers, particularly in WA and QLD.
Mining / Resources Engineer
AUD 95,000–140,000 starting
Perth is the global centre of Australia's resources sector. UWA's mining engineering faculty is directly connected to the industry.
Biomedical Engineer
AUD 80,000–110,000 starting
Medical technology and health infrastructure are growing sectors; UWA's biomedical stream feeds directly into Perth's health precinct.
Engineering Roles Worldwide
Washington Accord: 22 countries
The MPE is recognised as a professional engineering qualification in the US, UK, Canada, Japan, and 18 other Washington Accord signatories.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the MPE accredited in India?
The Washington Accord means your UWA engineering degree is recognised as a professional qualification in 22 countries. India is a signatory to the Washington Accord via the National Board of Accreditation — UWA-accredited graduates can apply for engineering registration under this arrangement.
Is the 12-week practicum paid?
Most industry practicums are paid. UWA has a network of host employers across WA's engineering and resources sector. UniCLiQ can share more detail on typical placement experiences.
Can a non-engineering graduate apply?
No. The MPE requires an undergraduate engineering or closely related technical degree. Graduates of science, IT, or maths programs should consider the MIT at UWA instead.
How does UniCLiQ make this free?
We are official representatives of UWA. The university pays us a referral fee for applications we manage — this is standard practice globally and means our full service remains free for students.
